Deomali Peak

Standing tall at 1,672 metres above sea level, Deomali Peak is the highest point in the entire state of Odisha, offering an unparalleled vantage point across the Eastern Ghats. Located in the Koraput district near the village of Deomali, this majestic peak is a paradise for trekkers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers seeking the raw beauty of untouched tribal Odisha.

The trek to Deomali Peak winds through dense deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, home to diverse flora including rare orchids, medicinal herbs, and towering sal trees. The forest trails are alive with birdcalls ù from the Malabar pied hornbill to the Indian roller ù making it a rewarding birding destination as well.

The summit rewards climbers with a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Eastern Ghats. On clear mornings, the sunrise from Deomali paints the sky in shades of gold and crimson, with layers of mist-covered valleys stretching to the horizon. During winter months (November to February), the peak is often draped in clouds, creating a surreal, almost Himalayan atmosphere.

Deomali is also significant for its tribal heritage. The surrounding villages are home to Paraja and Kondh tribal communities, whose traditional bamboo homes and vibrant weekly markets offer a glimpse into one of India's oldest living cultures. The annual Chaitra Parab festival held nearby is a spectacular celebration of tribal dance, music, and harvest rituals.
